What to do - when you don’t know what to do.
“I want to be lead of the Lord,
but this time I don’t know what to do”
I have shared this revelation before and it still stands - “I don't know it all and God is smarter than me.” What
this tells me is that I am still growing and His way of doing something
will always be the best outcome for every situation and for every
person involved. If I don’t seek God I know my way probably would make things worse - for all concerned.
The first thing we need to realise, when we don’t know what to do is - we need help!
When
we were growing up it may have seemed cute to see us say “leev-me-
alo-un” “I can do myself” Now that we are grown it is not cute anymore. In fact it can be dangerous for us and those around us.
So, who do you; go to when you don’t know what to do? We
all have people that we look up to or respect for one reason or
another, but even the best of the best of all these people’s advice is
so limited. Now God can use these people to help
get our attention, but He is the only one that can give the absolute
best solution - every time.
I have heard people say all I could do is pray? That is where we should start in every situation. In Corinthians 14:14-15 we read how we should pray. “14 For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.
15
Well then, what shall I do? I will do both. I will pray in the spirit,
and I will pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I
will sing in words I understand. (NLT)
When
we are baptised in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in
tongues we hold a powerful force within us - why not use it? If you are
a born again Christian you have Jesus living on the inside of you, why
not ask Him for His input. I have seen so many people wasting their time and others time, by seeking answers from people, that only God can provide.
We see in John 16:5-15 Holy Spirit is our helper. 5 “But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and none of you has asked me where I am going. 6 Instead, you are very sad. 7 But it is actually best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Counselor won’t come. If I do go away, he will come because I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convince the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. 9 The world’s sin is unbelief in me. 10 Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. 11 Judgment will come because the prince of this world has already been judged.
12 “Oh, there is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When
the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will
not be presenting his own ideas; he will be telling you what he has
heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by revealing to you whatever he receives from me. 15 All
that the Father has is mine; this is what I mean when I say that the
Spirit will reveal to you whatever he receives from me. (NLT)
“Councillor” in the original Greek word is Paraclete which refers to “Comforter”, or “Encourager”, or “Advocate”.
Holy Spirit wants to help us - that is His purpose!
He is in the trench with you!
It is one thing to just get through life by seeking the advice of other people. But the advice does not bring eternal salvation. At some point we need to walk in faith to receive all that Jesus provided for us on the cross.
Our lives are basic training for the final fight at the end of our lives. We all reach the end of our lives at different times. The victory or defeat and the destination of our spirits for eternity are determined by our basic training in this life. The truth (God’s Word) we know and believe!
What would you do if suddenly you were taken from your present position in life and thrust into the middle of the battle field? Is your basic training going to save you or are you going to curl up and give up? In
case you missed it we are in a war, Satin wants to take us out and we
are only here because of the grace of God and protection of the blood
of Jesus.
Just
like any basic training in the armies of the world at some point we
must face the enemy and what we have trained for must come out to
survive. We won’t be able to seek advice from people; we are each called to walk in the truth we know, not what others know. We could be closer than we think to our world in transition. I was reading an article in The Lekarev Report which quoted DEBKAfile's
Moscow sources report that the Russian president has reverted to his
previous tactic of broadcasting to Muslim nations a message that Moscow
has its own agenda and is willing, unlike Washington, to help them
develop their nuclear programs.
In W.E. Vine, Vine’s complete expository dictionary we see the work and purpose of Holy Spirit’s indwelling of us as born again Christians.
Work and Ministry of the Holy Spirit
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit only came on (clothe) particular people at specific times to impart wisdom and knowledge (to think, devise), to speak (tongue) to communicate God’s will, or to change (turn) hearts and minds. But a time was foretold when the Holy Spirit would be poured out (pour; shed) on all flesh.
On the day of Pentecost when all the believers were gathered (wait) together, the Holy Spirit fell (cloven; fall) upon them, empowering (power) and anointing them for service and witness to Christ. Full of the Holy Spirit, they began speaking in other languages. Later, other believers were baptized in the Holy Spirit at the laying on of the apostles’ hands.
The Holy Spirit is a person who can grieve when quenched. He is at work in the world to convict (judge; judgment) of sin. He dwells in the church and is at work in believers (flow; live; spring; search) to teach (compare; taught) them, to renew their minds, and to produce (appear) in them the likeness of Jesus (transfigure) through sanctification. He is the adversary of the flesh and binds believers together in unity. He helps believers in their intercessions (groan) and gives supernatural gifts of grace: the words of wisdom (wise) and knowledge; gifts of faith, healing, the working of miracles, prophecy, and discernment (decision); tongues and their interpretation. Those who are led by the Spirit will reap their reward, not only in the life to come, but in producing the fruit of the Spirit in their lives now: love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), gentleness (kindness), goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (continency).
Wow what more is there to say?
In
order to receive the leading of Holy Sprit we need to be operating in
Faith. Hebrews 11:6 “6 So, you see, it is impossible to please God
without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there
is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” (NLT)
In Hebrews 11:1 we see what faith is. “1
What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is
going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.” (NLT)
Again W.E. Vine explains it so well.
The Life of Faith
The Walk of Faith
The walk (accurately; narrow; path; straight; way) of faith is grounded in the need for believers to abide (firm; cleave; root; stedfast) in Christ, abhorring (eschew; renounce; resist) evil, mortifying the deeds of the body, and keeping themselves unspotted (spot) from the world (worldly; conformed; fashion). Scripture likens the life of faith to a fight (buffet; contend) or running (run) a race (course) to gain a prize (crown; reward). As believers follow after (disciple; imitate; learn) God in this way, he gives them the physical and moral ability (conquer; strength; to be strong) they need.
The walk of faith is one of knowing (acknowledge; key) God as a friend and understanding (eye; apprehend; to see; perceive; senses; to take away) him, although human understanding of God will always be limited. God is a rewarder of those who seek (feel) him and he gives wisdom (wise) for right living, as believers meditate (eat) on whatever things are lovely.
“What ever things are lovely”. That is His word - the bible. As we read and walk in the truth of God’s Word, we renew our thinking and way of doing things.
What we should do - when we don‘t know what to do.
We see the answer in Romans 12:2 “2 Don’t
copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you
into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know
what God wants you to do and you will know how good and pleasing and
perfect his will really is.” (NLT)
